Rockets anyone? from RCS

Since my class is studying rocketry, it seemed only natural to include some photos of a rocket from a space center not too far from Arkansas. Can you tell us which space center?
We have posted several questions for you to answer for us. Be sure to send us questions back!
Don't forget to check out the Geminid Meteor Shower this Friday, December 14th! Can you tell us which comet they come from?

What two NASA space centers are nearest to Arkansas?

Hey my name is Khadijah. The school I attend is Ridgway Christian School and I am in Mrs. Diedre Young's 8th grade Earth Science class. We have been studying about Rockety. And I had a question that I would like to be answered and that is; What two NASA space centers are nearest to Arkansas? Please comment if you know.

Thank You.
Hi, my name is Tim. I go to Ridgway Christian School in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. I am in eighth grade and we are studying about space. I would like to know what space center is closest to Washington State.

The Greogian or Lunar Calendar

Hi!
My name is Erin . I am in Mrs. Diedre's Earth Science class at Ridgway Christian School in PineBluff , Arkansas and I was wondering,
Do you think that the Georigian or the Lunar calendar is more scientifically accurate?
Thanks!

Have U Seen Any Meteorites?

Hi, my name is Tyisha ,I am an 8th grade girl and I attend Ridgway Christian School. I live in Pine Bluff Arkansas.I am attending a very good and creative earth science class taught by my favorite teacher Mrs. Diedre Young. I have been wondering if ,There have been any meteorites found in the Washington State?

Whas Up!!!!

Hi, my name is Ehvan and I am an eight grade girl in Ms. Diedre Young's Earth Science Class. I attend Ridgway Christian School, home of the Eagles, located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

I have a question for you to answer. Why aren't there any space centers in the Northwest areas?

Hey Yall!!

I'm Jessie from Ridgway Christian School of Pine Bluff , Arkansas! I'm an eighth grade girl in a wonderful earth science class taught by our very on Mrs. Diedre.

My question for you guys is:

Why do you think the moon doesn't have rings like other planet's satellites?

WHOOOOOOO PIG SOOIE!!! GO ARKANSAS RAZORBACKS!!!!!

GO EAGLES !!!!!!!!!!!!

MOSHI MOSHI!!

(Title is Japanese for 'Hello!' I'm far from being Japanese though!)

Hello, My name is Clai, and I am an eigth-grader at Ridgway Christian School in Pine Bluff!!! (Also, I am a girl so do not get it twisted.)

Like my other classmates, I have a question for you.

The Tungaska Event was reportedly caused by part of a comet or a comet nucleus landing to the Earth. This does not happen often as the explosion had the power of 1,000x of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, during WWII. Why is it so rare that comets hit the earth while meteroids often become meteors and sometimes meteorites too?

Go Eagles!!

It's only dark when the fireflies aren't flying....

Ridgway Christian's daylight hour graph. 34 N lat, 91 W long.

Well, after several false starts we finally finished our daylight hours graph. We found out that our longest day is 14 hrs 30 minutes and our shortest day is 8 hours 55 minutes.
Our graph looks a bit 'different' due to the combining of three different graphs and that we only graphed every third day rather than every day. You can also see an occasional 'oops' where numbers were a bit 'skewed' but the overall affect is there.

Ridgway Christian Says 'Hi Y'all!

'Ms Diedre' with her son David and daughter Beka at the Titanic exhibit in Branson, Missouri

Ridgway Christian Earth Science Class.

We are located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, which is about mid-way in the state.
The Ozark Mountains are to the north (they are a beautiful deciduous forest!) and the Delta is to the south (lots of Alligators down there!)

We are a Christian school that is supported by the First Assembly of God Church in Pine Bluff. Currently we only go to the ninth grade but next year they are adding tenth and eleventh!
We are SO excited to be able to exchange ideas with our sister school to the north!
Our teacher is Diedre Young (officially known as Ms. Diedre!) and she used to teach at your school so she knows 'Ms Cindy' very well! We know we will learn a lot from each other, yea!

Graph: Daylight Hours at N46° 08’

Here is the class graph of Daylight Hours in Longview, WA (latitude N46° 08’) from September, 2007 through August, 2008.

Students worked on the graph in groups; each group was responsible for three months.

Students calculated the number of daylight hours using information from http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneYear.php and graphed each day in 5-minute intervals.

We found that our “longest” day has 15 hours and 50 minutes of sunlight while our “shortest” day has just 8 hours and 35 minutes.
______________________________________________________

Number of Daylight Hours from September 1 through March 31.

On September 1 there are about 13 hours and 20 minutes of daylight, and that deminishes to 8 hours and 35 minutes on December 16. By March 31, the number of daylight hours increases to 12 hours and 55 minutes.
______________________________________________________

Number of Daylight Hours from April 1 through August 31.
On April 1 there are about 12 hours and 55 minutes of daylight, on June 18, 15 hours and 50 minutes (whoo hoo), and on August 31, 12 hours and 55 minutes.

Note: The four sections of white resulted when a student was ill and did not complete his/her portion of the project. Question: Should the team do the work for the absent student to make a complete graph? Or Should the team hold every individual responsible for his/her part?

SUNRISE...SUNSET

Here's something we've been working on in class...

Since the earth's tilt is responsible for the change in seasons in a year, we are interested in comparing the number of daylight hours at our school to the number of daylight hours at your school -- for an entire year.

If you go to http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneYear.php you can get a table of sunrise and sunset times for your location. Print off tables for both 2007 and 2008.

Calculate the number of daylight hours for an entire year (Sept., 2007 - Aug., 2008).

Make a bar graph of the daylight hours (I have a template I can email to you).

As soon as we're done making our bar graph and posting it in our classroom, we'll post a photo!

Hope to hear from you soon!

We are the Eagles...the mighty, mighty Eagles!
And we say, "Welcome to Washington."

The specific mission of Three Rivers Christian School shall be to glorify God by providing quality, biblically based, Christ-centered education dedicated to developing students with a Christian world view, who are spiritually, socially, physically and academically prepared to impact the world for Christ.

Through our 8th grade science course we want to explore the Earth God created and share our discoveries with Mrs. Young's class in Arkansas.

Are y'all ready for this!! We are pumped up and ready to go!

Here I am hamming it up this summer at Meteor Crater (aka, Barringer Crater) in Arizona. The crater is featured in our Earth Science textbook in Chapter...um, I'll look it up!

I am looking forward to our classes sharing discoveries and getting to know each other as brothers and sisters in Christ!
